Papa’s Plumbing & Rooter has been servicing the San Valley, California region for many years and our experienced techs would be happy to help you solve any plumbing issues that may arise this winter. However, we would love to help you save time and money by helping you avoid catastrophe and prepare your plumbing for the winter! Fall is here, which means it’s time to get started! To help you out we have assembled a few maintenance tips to get you through those California rainy winters and avoid a possible plumbing catastrophe.

Our Plumbing Tips

The first thing we recommend to prepare you for this 2018 winter season, is to inspect those outside hoses and spigots. We even suggest removing them for the season to eliminate any chance of damage. A nice dry space such as a garage or shed would be perfect to store them until the weather dries up. In addition, you’ll want to check the hoses that lead to water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines, and ice makers to ensure those are working just fine as well. Immediately replace any hose that has cracks or leaks. We recommend replacing them roughly every five years regardless of any noticeable damage as they tend to wear out over time. If you do find a leak or would like to ensure there are no leaks, you can contact us for a thorough inspection.

We also strongly advise you to make sure the water drains away from the building. After a storm, and especially if the soil is already saturated, the rainwater will leak through any cracks in the foundation wall. This can cause huge costly repairs that can easily be avoided by completing a quick check and redirecting the water if needed.

One of the last tips that Papa’s Plumbing & Rooter will give you for this 2018 winter season is to close your shut-off valves. These interior valves lead to outdoor water spigots which can freeze and cause damage if temperatures drop below freezing. If you do notice any damage or if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Our last tip, reseal your basement! This will keep water from running into the floor slab and cracks and prevent any unexpected basement flooding. This will also prevent damage to your home’s foundation to help you avoid costly repairs further down the road.
